 Philip trained in a city based London firm before qualifying in 1974 and moving up to Thirsk to become a partner in the firm in 1980. Philip has a wealth of experience serving the local business community, advising clients on all aspects of accounting, auditing, taxation and finance. He is particularly focused on supporting the development of businesses and has extensive knowledge of the farming industry and all matters agricultural.

Charles Gill ACA ATII
Partner (Ripon)
 Charles trained with a national firm before qualifying in 1978 and becoming a tax partner in their Bradford office. Charles moved to Thirsk to become a partner in the Barker Partnership in 1989 taking charge of the Ripon office in 1993. Charles is also responsible for the Pateley Bridge office assisted by Stuart Strike and Isabelle Maker. Charles’ extensive experience as a general practitioner has proved invaluable to his large and varied client base. His specialist knowledge of tax matters ensures clients throughout the firm receive practical and effective tax planning advice in all areas including; trusts, estates and inheritance tax.

Bill Pearson ACA FCCA

 Bill was trained at the Barker Partnership and qualified in 1995. He was appointed a partner in 2007 upon the retirement of founding partner Terry Barker.
Bill is committed to providing a personal, professional and proactive service, designed to meet the individual requirements of all his clients. Bill is the firm’s compliance Partner and ensures that the firm and it’s clients remain up to date with all statutory and regulatory matters.

Irene manages an extremely broad base of clients including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, providing accounts and tax compliance work on a timely and proactive basis. She has a wealth of experience in general practice and is able to assist her clients on all aspects of their financial affairs.

 David is the manager at our Harrogate office overseeing a client portfolio that includes corporate work, management accounts as well as sole traders and partnerships.
David has seen a significant increase in his client base over recent months and has dedicated a great deal of his time to ensuring all his clients receive sound individual expert advice. His personable manner swiftly puts clients at ease.

Stephen Kay FCCA
Associate (Ripon)
 Stephen has worked for The Barker Partnership since 1998, following the completion of his A levels at Ripon Grammer School. He has recently returned to our Ripon office from our Thirsk office, to act as office manager and deputy to the Ripon Partner Charles Gill.
Stephen specialises in corporate accounting, taxation and compliance work for various sizes of clients, and holds an ACCA Auditing Practicing Certificate. He also enjoys helping clients with Sage bookkeeping and system set up, together with advising smaller clients with accountancy, personal tax, tax credits, tax compliance and general business advice.

 Stuart started work with Burtwistle Clements over 20 years ago and has been instrumental in guiding the business through the recent developments, culminating with the recent merger and accepting a position as an Associate of The Barker Partnership and managing the office in Pateley Bridge.
Stuart’s client base includes sole trader, partnership and corporate businesses in a wide ranging variety of industries and ensures that each client receives an exceptional personable service that uncovers the most practical and tax efficient solutions.

Andrew Taylor FCCA
Associate (Thirsk)
 Andrew qualified whist working in smaller accountancy practices in North Yorkshire before moving to head up the corporate section of a practice in York. He joined The Barker Partnership in 2008 as an Associate in the Thirsk office. Andrew is a dedicated general practitioner who acts for a broad range of both corporate and personal clients across a variety of business sectors. He is heavily involved in the firm’s audit department and also manages the Sage bookkeeping and VAT compliance department. He advises clients on all accountancy and taxation matters, including management information and support.

Isabelle Maker
Associate (Pateley Bridge)
 Isabelle started her career working for HM Revenue and Customs, she left to work in the private sector for a large firm in York where she qualified as an intermediary with the Institute of Taxation.
Isabelle uses her extensive tax knowledge to assist clients in mitigating their exposure to both income and capital taxes. Effective tax planning is fundamental to success in minimising liability and she is focused on this.
Isabelle is also in charge of our payroll department, which looks after the operation of the PAYE schemes for a number of clients in a variety of businesses.
